GI Joe talks about the biggest challenge in getting the WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughtered for a classified series

Long-time fans of the GI Joe series got a welcome surprise during Hasbro’s live broadcast of GI Joe Fan First Tuesday, where the team revealed during the show that their favorite WWE Hall of Famer and GI Joe are Sgt. Slaughter was introduced to the GI Joe Classified line. Sgt. Slaughter did a classic promo and we got our first look at the shape’s digital rendering, and it looks great so far. ComicBook.com had a chance to talk to Hasbro Associate Brand Director Emily Bader and lead designer for the GI series Joe Classified Lenny Panzica all about the new Slaughter character, including the biggest challenge in capturing the icon in figure form, his future with the brand, and even a tease For what the main figure extension would be.

In terms of the most challenging aspect of development, it was just catching someone as creative as Sgt. Slaughter and capture the feel and liveliness of animation. “The hardest part from a design point of view is getting it right,” Panzica said. “There are other massacres there, but there are no real American massacres there. So we wanted to make the real American slaughterhouses.” “And if you noticed in the design, I tried to make it feel like it’s coming out of an animation. I wanted him to … I mentioned that he was like, ‘You guys eat bonbons and play video games.'” “In that episode, he comes in and hits everyone, and everyone does pushups because they’re afraid of him.”

And getting it to look right also ended up being a little trickier than expected thanks to the lack of high-quality images and photos of it from earlier. “That’s what we were trying to do with him. The hard part about that was finding a reference to his face because he’s an older man now, and at the time when… the sincerity of the photo… I was trying to find pictures of him,” Panzica said. It has been turned into a cartoon. So you’ll notice in the sculpture, it’s going to be like it’s younger, and caricatured, but real, if that makes sense.”

Panzica spent a lot of time trying to get his face and shape just right, although his wife might say he spent a lot of time on it. “So he still has his jaw. I think we named him. Tony likes it, which makes me feel really good about it, because I’ve been going back and forth on this sculpture, but I painted his face a lot. Just for.. I spent my days and my wife like ‘Stop drawing’ Face that guy!” Panzica said, but I got it right! But I think we got it right. And Corey, I forgot who used it as a sculptor to work on, but the sculptor did a really good job.”

We knew the Slaughter’s hat and whistle would be removable, but we didn’t get to reveal the Sgt accessories. Slaughter will come with. In the promo, he holds a custom GI Joe starring title, which many hope will be included, and although they won’t give an answer there, they tease some details.

“I think from a design point of view it’s like getting it looks just right, and then what it has to come with as well,” Panzica said. “I think it comes with some fun stuff. You’ll find that its price point is really good too.”

“His accessories.. the first time I saw his own I went, ‘Oh my God, that’s cool,'” Bader said. “And it’s not exactly like the reaction you’d want for Soldier Joe, but it’s very good of me.”

“But they’re there because… I remember the commercial when I was a kid and I was asked to buy GI Joes by this awesome wrestler calling me caterpillar, and for some reason, I’m like, ‘Yeah, I need to go get them.'” Yes, mom, dad, can we go to the play store now? So yeah, it’s an indication of that. But I think that from a design point of view, this was the most difficult,” Panzica said.

while sergeant. Slaughter might call recruits worms and be a stubborn leader, the man behind the character is anything but kind. “Yes, Serge is very nice,” Bader said. “I was really terrified because he was this angry, bigger-than-life guy who was going to come out and yell at me.” “Oh my God, he’s so cute guys. He’s been so cool to work with and he’s so positive about GI Joe and so excited about the brand and so excited to be back. That level of enthusiasm is.. I mean, it’s really contagious for the rest of us, because if someone Excited and the person you’re making into an action figure, which is like, Holy s***, that’s so cool, it’s magical. And so, this video you saw of Sarge isn’t the last you’ll see of Sarge. There’s exciting stuff afoot.”

Looks like we can expect to see more Sgt. Slaughter is in the world of GI Joe, and we hope to see the full reveal of the new ranked number soon as well. Who knows, maybe we’ll get more WWE and GI Joe crossovers in the future, but I think we’ll have to wait and see.

What do you think of the sergeant. Slaughter reveals and what do you hope the numbers include in its final version? Let us know in the comments and as always you can talk to me about all things wrestling and gaming on Twitter @MattAguilarCB!
